In July 1992 Andrew McGill and Richard Moore established Fine-Align Engineering Services with the single objective of offering marine and industrial customers the very best problem solving services in the field of rotating and reciprocating machinery.
As the work came in and the business expanded, Fine-Align Limited took over all on-site activities in 1994. Today from its new premises in Collingham, England the company provides its worldwide customers with the very best alignment related problem solving services available.
At its most specialised the service will integrate laser measurement systems with portable machine tools to move displaced bores into line with nominated datum points. The major benefits of our integrated service is the speed of repair without accuracy being compromised in any way.
Once we commit to undertake a task, our existing customers know they can relax as we bring to bear our considerable experience and expertise in resolving alignment problems.
From the very start we allocated both financial and technical resource to developing an in-house design and manufacturing capability. This capability gave the company a number of advantages, one of the most obvious was the integration of laser measurement systems to the portable machine tools.
Fine-Align's portable equipment is indispensable for machining large structural
parts used in construction equipment such as drag lines and piling rigs.
The sheer scale of key components often restricts where they can be machined using conventional methods. By working quickly and cost-efficiently in-situ, Fine-Align eliminates heavy transport and specialist workshop costs while clients retain control of repair schedules by keeping the work on their sites.
Fine-Align's recent on-site work includes jobs for BPH, Stent and providing bore-welding and machining services to Aarslef Piling during an overhaul of a large piling rig at their Newark depot, close to Fine-Align's headquarters and workshop.

New customers can be sure we will only commit our companies resources if we are confident of a successful outcome. Where in our opinion the customers requirements may be compromised by the proposed action, we will highlight any potential short comings so alternative action can be considered.
"Once on site, we're in a highly fluid process," observes Andrew McGill. "After meeting the customer to discuss initial findings, agree the basic approach and desired outcome we're often having to innovate and design the way forward as a job unfolds. ISO 9001 had to encompass this fluidity. "Fine-Align's concise documentation is transparent," notes Garvel Clyde's John Davies. "Helpful invoices detail every detail of work, with no hidden 'extras'. Ship owners expect this level of professionalism."
As Doug McFarlene, fleet technical manager at Caledonian MacBrayne underlines, "they've performed to high standards for years and ISO 9001 validates that quality".
